Ever wonded just how long it took for a steam engine company to respond?
The average was 2-3 minutes! Really? With a cold boiler?
Well the boilers were not cold, they were connected to the house hot water or steam heating system, or had an engine preheating boiler in the back of the house. The heaters were connceted with quick disconnects, much like a air hose connecter. The only differences is that you had to shut off the valves on the engine and the hose or pipe connected to the heating system. This took less than 30 seconds!
